We are forming a team to play in the Nebraska Select girls state freshman basketball tournament over Memorial Day in Grand Island. Tiger players in 7th-8th-9th grades this year are eligible to try-out.

Try-out for Freshman State BASKETBALL Tournament HASTINGS team

 

When: the try-out will be Sunday, February 26 at 7pm at the Hastings High south gym. The tournament is Memorial Day weekend in Grand Island. Practices for those selected will begin in late March.

 

Who: 7-8-9th graders from Hastings High and Hastings Middle School are invited to try out.  (It we need to go outside the HPS system to fill a team, we will at a later date.) HHS head coach Greg Mays and his assistant and brother Tate Mays will coach the team.

 

What: The try-out will involve basketball drills and scrimmaging (3x3 and 5x5). It will be a good evening of basketball for any TIger basketball player, even if one is not totally committed to playing in the tournament.  All are welcome. HHS basketball coaches will supervise the try-out.  

 

What (part 2): The tournament helps Nebraska Select, a western Nebraska basketball club, select its teams for July competition throughout the Midwest.

 

How much: the try-out is FREE.  Those selected for the team will divide the $350 entry fee.  We hope to have 10 players to make each share $35. The Tiger basketball program will provide reversible jerseys to save that cost. We will look for a sponsor to help with the cost, but that is not guaranteed.

 

Commitment: Players selected who choose to join the team will practice at least once a week from late March until Memorial Day.  We will do everything we can to work around track, soccer, softball and other commitments.
